Continuing to exist in defiance
An unnerving emotional quiet, post the UK Supreme Court's anti-trans ruling. Except for the desire to fight through writing.

I meant to put out the next in my starting-out writing advice series this week.
Then, the UK Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of ‘woman’ happened.
I’m not sure what words to write to make sense of how I feel, or help me feel less shit about not being able to feel much of anything.
The only feeling there, is the fire to write – from a place of pride in our community, and in myself. Pride because we exist, and nobody and nothing has or will ever stop us from existing, or having existed, and lived.
It’s a tenderly powerful way to live a life. Especially in this moment in our history.
But if it’s what life must be for the sake of our generations to come, then I say so be it.
That doesn’t mean I’m prepared, even though there’s a sense of what to prepare for by the US template.
I’m wary it can be too easy to be cavalier before reality fully sets in.
I’m also wary of my degree of privilege as a white nonbinary trans masc, who is housed with loving family. Who also has access to gender-affirming medical care, and is therefore usually presumed male.
But through my words, my journalism, leveraging what privilege I have, and by continuing to exist, I mean to keep up the fight whenever I have fight in me.
One way I’m defying the law, is by gathering comment from the Trans+ community for an article I’m writing with The Lead. If you’d like to be part of that, leave a comment saying so, and let me know if you’d prefer to chat over email.
If you have anything you want to express, share or vent, I give the floor to you.
I hope you can take heart, my friends.
I saw the news this week, and as a nonbinary/trans person living in the US, I was really hoping that the UK wouldn't follow. It hurts, it's sad, it's angering, it's scary. There have been 850+ anti-trans bills proposed/introduced (not all passed) across 50 states in 2025, according to Erin Reed (Erin in the Morning).
But the fact that we continue to live and thrive and write even in the US does give me hope and life as you mentioned in your post. We exist and have existed, and will continue to exist!
Take care and keep writing!
